Gounni, Abdelilah Soussi. The high-affinity IgE receptor (Fc RI): a critical regulator of airway smooth muscle cells? Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol 291: L312–L321, 2006. First published March 31, 2006; doi:10.1152/ajplung.00005.2006.—The airway smooth muscle (ASM) has been typically described as a contractile tissue, responding to neurotransmitters and inflammatory mediators. However, it has recently been recognized that ASM cells can also secrete cytokines and chemokines and express cell adhesion molecules that are important for the perpetuation and modulation of airway inflammation. Recent progress has revealed the importance of IgE Fc receptors in stimulating and modulating the function of these cells. In particular, the high-affinity receptor for IgE (Fc RI) has been identified in primary human ASM cells in vitro and in vivo within bronchial biopsies of atopic asthmatic individuals. Moreover, activation of this receptor has been found to induce marked increases in the intracellular calcium concentrations and T helper 2 cytokines and chemokines release. This and other evidence discussed in this review provide an emerging view of Fc R/IgE network as a critical modulator of ASM cell function in allergic asthma.

متن کاملHuman neutrophils express the high-affinity receptor for immunoglobulin E (Fc«RI): role in asthma
Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are important effector cells in host defense and the inflammatory response to antigen. The involvement of PMNs in inflammation is mediated mainly by the Fc receptor family, including IgE receptors. Recently, PMNs were shown to express two IgE receptors (CD23/Fc«RII and galectin-3). In allergic diseases, the dominant role of IgE has been mainly ascribed to it...

The Fc-region of immunoglobulin E (IgE) comprising C epsilon 2, C epsilon 3, and C epsilon 4 domains is sufficient for binding to the alpha chain of the high affinity IgE-Fc receptor (Fc epsilon RI alpha). In order to identify the smallest Fc fragment capable of binding to the Fc epsilon RI alpha with high affinity, various regions of the IgE-Fc molecule were expressed in COS cells and investig...
متن کاملRegulation of high-affinity IgE receptor-mediated mast cell activation by murine low-affinity IgG receptors.
Allergic symptoms result from the release of granular and lipidic mediators and of cytokines by inflammatory cells. The whole process is initiated by the aggregation of mast cell and basophil high-affinity IgE receptors (Fc epsilon RI) by IgE and antigen. We report here that IgE-induced release of mediator and cytokine can be inhibited by cross-linking Fc epsilon RI to low-affinity IgG receptor...
